What Happens During a WorkCover Doctor Consultation
If you've never seen a WorkCover doctor before, here's what to expect when you see one of ours.
Initial Assessment
Our doctor will take a thorough history of your injury — how it happened, what symptoms you're experiencing, and how it's affecting your ability to work and carry out daily activities. They'll perform a physical examination and, if needed, arrange diagnostic tests such as X-rays, MRIs, or blood work.
Certificate of Capacity
This is the key document in any WorkCover claim. Our doctors will issue a Certificate of Capacity that outlines your diagnosis, your current work capacity (whether you can work full duties, modified duties, or not at all), and what treatment you need. This certificate is what your insurer uses to determine your entitlements, so getting it right matters.
Treatment Plan
Based on your assessment, our doctor will develop a treatment plan tailored to your injury. This may include physiotherapy, psychological support, specialist referrals, medication, or a combination of treatments. Everything is coordinated to give you the best chance of recovery.
Ongoing Management
WorkCover claims aren't a one-off appointment. Our doctors provide ongoing care throughout your recovery — updating your Certificate of Capacity as your condition changes, adjusting your treatment plan, and ensuring the insurer has the documentation they need to keep your entitlements flowing. You're not left to figure it out on your own.
What Makes Our WorkCover Doctors Different
Not every GP understands WorkCover. The system has its own rules, paperwork, and expectations. Our doctors specialise in this area — it's what they do every day.
- ✓They know the insurer requirements. Certificates of Capacity need to be filled out in a specific way. Vague or incomplete documentation is the number one reason claims get delayed or disputed. Our doctors get it right the first time.
- ✓They understand the claims process inside out. From initial lodgement through to return-to-work planning, our doctors know exactly what's required at each stage and how to document your condition so your claim stays on track.
- ✓They advocate for you. Our doctors are on your side. They document your injuries accurately and thoroughly, ensuring the insurer has a clear picture of your condition and what you need to recover.
- ✓They coordinate your entire treatment team.Whether you need physio, psychology, specialist opinions, or rehabilitation support, our doctors coordinate it all so you're not chasing different providers yourself.
What to Bring to Your Appointment
To make the most of your consultation, bring the following if you have them available. Don't worry if you don't have everything — our team can help you gather what's needed.
- ✓Your WorkCover claim number (if you have one)
- ✓Photo ID (driver's licence, passport, or Medicare card)
- ✓Details of how your injury occurred
- ✓Your employer's name and contact details
- ✓Any existing medical reports, scans, or test results
