Start With the Doctor, Then the Rest Follows
The order matters on a CTP claim. The first certificate is a doctor's document, and everything downstream of it moves more easily once it exists.
A doctor, first
A proper look at what the crash did, plus the Certificate of Fitness your weekly payments run on. Only a medical practitioner can complete that first one, which is why this is usually the appointment we book ahead of the others.
A physiotherapist
Treatment for the necks, backs and shoulders a crash tends to leave behind, and a graded plan for getting your range and your week back. Your physio can take over the certificates once the first one exists.
A psychologist
For everything a scan will not show: not wanting to get behind the wheel, sleep that never came back, or a recovery that has dragged on long enough to flatten you. Sessions can run by video once you are under way.
The first Certificate of Fitness must come from a treating medical practitioner, and a second or later one may come from your treating physiotherapist or psychologist. Source: SIRA, Motor Accident Guidelines 4.68 and 4.69 (checked September 2026).

- Every certificate appointment, because the form is filled in at the desk once you have been examined.
- The first appointment after a crash, where an examination is what the whole file rests on.
- Hands-on physiotherapy, which is not something a screen can do for you.
By video, for reviews
- Progress reviews once your treatment plan is running and approved.
- Psychology sessions, which are often easier to keep up from your own lounge room.
- Check-ins where getting into a car is still the hardest part of the day.
Certificates are the one thing we will not do over video. If one is due, flag it on the form and that appointment gets booked face to face.
Who Pays for the Appointment
Once the CTP insurer has accepted your claim, appointments are charged to that claim and no invoice reaches you. We check what has already been agreed before we book you in, because if an insurer refuses liability or knocks back a treatment request the accounts land back on the patient, and that is not something to discover afterwards.
If your claim has not been lodged yet, the door is not shut. The Guidelines let an insurer agree to pay for a single GP consultation and two allied health sessions in the 28 days after a crash, provided it has been told about the accident and a claim or reference number has been issued. That agreement is the insurer’s to give, so we ask for it and get the answer in writing before anyone treats you.

What To Bring
Bring what you have. Missing pieces are normal after a crash and none of them stop us booking you.
- The date of the accident, and roughly where it happened.
- The police event number, if the crash has already been reported.
- Your CTP insurer and claim number, if one has been issued. Leave it blank if not.
- Any imaging, hospital discharge paperwork or emergency department notes you were given.
- A list of what is hurting and what you have stopped being able to do since the crash.
What Happens Next
Nobody expects you to know which scheme applies or which certificate a doctor has to fill in. That part is on us.
Ring us or fill in the form. The date of the crash and a number we can reach you on is enough to start.
We check whether a workers compensation claim is also in play, then decide which clinician should see you first.
We find out what the CTP insurer has already agreed to, lodge the request if there is not one, then lock the time in with you.
You are seen, and the certificate and clinical notes from that visit go to the insurer and to anyone else who needs them.
