Amputation WorkCover Claims NSW
Traumatic amputation from machinery, blades or crush injury — our WorkCover doctors, surgeons, physios and lawyers run NSW amputation claims with lifetime support and common-law pathways.
Every appointment on this page is paid by the insurer under your NSW workers compensation claim. You don't receive an invoice for any of it — not for our doctors, physios, psychologists, rehab providers or compensation lawyers.
Yes — amputation is a standard NSW WorkCover claim
If work caused or aggravated it, NSW workers compensation covers it. You don't need a single dramatic incident, and you don't need a pre-existing-condition-free history. Here's the short version of what that means for amputation.
Work caused or aggravated it
Sudden or cumulative, new or aggravated — amputation from work-related causes qualifies. Our doctors document the mechanism so the insurer can accept the claim.

Most claims in this category come down to a handful of mechanisms. If yours fits any of these, it's almost certainly claimable — and even if it doesn't, book an assessment anyway. The list isn't exhaustive.
- Machinery entanglement in manufacturing and food processing
- Saw, blade and angle-grinder incidents in trades
- Press, punch and guillotine equipment in metalwork
- Agricultural equipment — augers, balers, PTO shafts
- Crush injuries that result in surgical amputation
- Vehicle and forklift incidents with trapped limbs

When to see a WorkCover doctor
Any of these symptoms after a work-related incident or from a work-related activity means it's time to get assessed. Early assessment gives amputation the best chance of fast recovery.
- Traumatic loss of a limb, finger or toe at the incident
- Severe pain, blood loss and shock in the acute phase
- Phantom limb sensation or phantom pain after surgery
- Difficulty with balance, gait and daily tasks
- Psychological trauma and adjustment difficulties
- Ongoing wound care and stump issues during healing
Don't push through. The workers who recover fastest are the ones who see a doctor in the first week.
What NSW WorkCover pays for with amputation
Once your claim is accepted (or under provisional liability), the insurer pays for every line below directly. You don't receive an invoice for any of it.

- Prosthetic limbs, fitting, replacement and maintenance
- Occupational therapy and prosthetic training
- Physiotherapy for strength, balance and gait
- Home, vehicle and workplace modifications
- Psychological support for trauma and adjustment
- Lifetime medical and rehab where clinically indicated

What the NSW data says
You would not be the first person to claim for amputation. The national and NSW data makes that very clear.

How we handle amputation claims
Our doctors, physios, psychologists, rehab providers and compensation lawyers all work under one roof. One phone call gets the whole team involved.
Amputation injuries almost always sit in the highest-impairment tier of the NSW scheme — our WorkCover doctors, specialists, physios and lawyers work as one team. After the acute surgery, we coordinate prosthetic fitting, occupational therapy and psychological support. Our compensation lawyers run the lump-sum impairment claim and assess common-law damages and any TPD entitlements against your super — pathways many workers don't realise are available.
